SCD1 POLYMORPHISM AND BREEDING VALUE FOR MILK PRODUCTION TRAITS IN COWS
P. Łakomy, K. Żukowski, I. Kowalewska-Łuczak, H. Kulig
Abstract: The aim of this study was to estimate the associations between the g.10153G>A polymorphism and the breeding values for milk production traits (milk, fat and protein yield, fat and protein content) in Polish Holstein-Friesian cows. The frequencies of alleles and genotypes were determined in the examined herd. Statistically significant associations between the SNP and the breeding value for fat content and protein content were found. The results indicated that individuals with the allele G in the genotype might contribute to increase the value of these traits. However, further studies are needed to confirm these suggestions.
